To call HYBE K-pop boy group TXT a success would be a gross understatement. The group has sold millions of album copies and has a headlining credit at Lollapalooza to its name. It is not living in the shadow of big brother group BTS in any possible way. A group as successful as this one needs a strong and reliable leader. So among Yeonjun, Soobin, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Hueningkai, here is the answer to who the leader of TXT (Tomorrow X Together) is and why he was chosen as leader.
Soobin Is the Leader of TXT
Soobin is the leader of the group, because the other TXT members and HYBE staff unanimously voted for Soobin to be the leader. Incidentally, Soobin himself had actually voted for Yeonjun, because Yeonjun is the oldest member (Soobin is the second oldest member.) and had taken the lead in synchronizing the group’s dancing during practices. Soobin had fully expected Yeonjun to be selected as leader and was surprised when he was chosen instead, since he said he found himself to be “shy and introverted.”
Nonetheless, the group and the fans alike agree that Soobin is a terrific leader, and he has grown increasingly comfortable in the role over time. Speaking to Consequence for a feature in May 2023, Soobin reflected on how he did the best he could to lead at debut, and if he could have a conversation with the person he was back at debut, he decided, “I wouldn’t want to do anything that would affect present me, because I’m so satisfied with present me.” He also added that he feels much more confident in his public speaking since their first world tour in 2022, with his words and speeches becoming “more organized,” and he joked, “I think I became kind of cool.”
Still, being the leader of a beloved K-pop group like TXT comes with significant pressures. In the same interview with Consequence, Soobin explained that he is inclined to discuss these pressures with other friends instead of his group members, because he would prefer to shoulder that pressure without burdening the members.
He opened up more about his personal struggles on Lee Youngji’s YouTube show Absolutely No Prepare in June 2022. Soobin explained that he felt he had a lack of skills and had debuted before he was ready, and as a result, he said, “After my debut, for a few years, I’ve been thinking in a way that I am less shining than other members and receiving less attention than other members. I started to think that instead of standing out, getting along with others is a better role for me.” However, Lee Youngji assured Soobin with deep sincerity that he was doing a good job as leader, which actually caused him to tear up a bit. He even said, “I didn’t know, but what you told me was what I wanted to hear.”
So to summarize, Soobin is the leader of TXT, and despite leadership pressures and past feelings of inadequacy, he excels at showing the way forward for Tomorrow X Together.
