Boys Planet, the Mnet survival competition show that created the K-pop boy group Zerobaseone, emphasized its global nature from the beginning. Its 98 contestants were divided into two groups: K-Group and G-Group, standing for “Korea” and “Global” respectively. Viewers from around the world were likewise invited to vote to shape the final lineup of the group. In the end, the group wound up still being largely Korean, but not every member hails from South Korea. So among Kim Jiwoong, Zhang Hao, Sung Hanbin, Seok Matthew, Kim Taerae, Ricky, Kim Gyuvin, Park Gunwook, and Han Yujin, here is each country where the Zerobaseone (ZB1) members are originally from.
Where the Zerobaseone (ZB1) Members Are From
- Jiwoong is from South Korea.
- Zhang Hao comes from Fujian, China.
- Hanbin is from South Korea.
- Matthew is from Canada, raised in White Rock, and is ethnically Korean.
- Taerae is from South Korea.
- Ricky comes from Shanghai, China.
- Gyuvin is from South Korea.
- Gunwook is from South Korea.
- Yujin is from South Korea.
As you can see, six members from K-Group made it into the final lineup of ZB1, while three members are from G-Group. Zhang Hao and Ricky are from China and ethnically Chinese, while Matthew is from Canada but is ethnically Korean. Contestants from Boys Planet had come from other regions, including the United States, Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam, but none of them made the cut.
The nine members of Zerobaseone are performing together under the company WAKEONE for the duration of their contract, though most members also belong to another individual company. WAKEONE furthermore manages Kep1er, the K-pop girl group created by the Mnet survival competition show Girls Planet 999; unlike Boys Planet, Girls Planet 999 was only open to applicants in South Korea, Japan, China, and Taiwan.
So, in summary, most of the Zerobaseone (ZB1) members are from South Korea, but Matthew is from Canada and Zhang Hao and Ricky are from China.
