How Old Are the BabyMonster Members?

Back in May 2023, the conclusion of the Last Evaluation documentary series confirmed the final lineup of the YG Entertainment girl group, BabyMonster. YG executive producer Yang Hyun-suk had put the group through rigorous tests, both solo and as a group, with actual evaluation occurring from both YG staff and idols. In the end, it was happily confirmed that all seven members of BabyMonster would debut — but then on October 15, 2023, YG announced that member Ahyeon would not debut with the group, owing to health issues. Fortunately, she will ultimately join the group on April 1, 2024, and BabyMonster debuted as six members on November 27, 2023. And true to their name, the BabyMonster members are fairly young overall. So if you want to know how old the BabyMonster members are, here is the current age and birthday for Ruka, Pharita, Asa, Ahyeon, Rami (Haram), Rora, and Chiquita.

How Old Explained: Age and Birthday for Each of the BabyMonster Members

  • Ruka is 22 years old and was born on March 20, 2002.
  • Pharita is 19 years old and was born on August 26, 2005.
  • Asa is 18 years old and was born on April 17, 2006.
  • Ahyeon is 17 years old and was born on April 11, 2007.
  • Rami is 17 years old and was born on October 17, 2007.
  • Rora is 16 years old and was born on August 14, 2008.
  • Chiquita is 15 years old and was born on February 17, 2009.

Ruka and Pharita are the only two members of BabyMonster who debuted as adults. This in itself is not wildly unusual. For instance, nearly everyone in the girl group CSR debuted at age 17 (except the maknae, at age 16) in 2022. Chiquita then is the maknae (“youngest member”) of BabyMonster by debuting at age 14. Age 14 is typically the youngest age at which an idol debuts, as seen with Leeseo in IVE or Hyein in NewJeans. However, Kaylee notably predebuted at age 13 in VCHA, and Jieun debuted at age 13 in Young Posse.

The BabyMonster members are notable for coming from three different countries: South Korea, Japan, and Thailand. Since some of the members also speak English, BabyMonster is better equipped for international success, which is surely no coincidence on the part of YG Entertainment. It seems Ahyeon was originally intended to be the group leader, but it is not yet clear if she will officially receive that position upon formally joining the group.

  1. Why are people complaining that the girls are young? This type of music and dance is for young people. Nothing more pathetic than middle aged ladies like Beyonce, Nikki Minaj, Cardi B, Shakira, J Lol, Taylor Swift, and Ariana Grande trying to act like teenagers.

    1. Great point! They are geared towards kids. We can’t relate to all the granny’s jlo marha carey etc.

  2. erm no, the point is that these minors are exposed to the outside world, it’s a dangerous place especially for their age.
