YG Entertainment is clearly aiming for world domination with K-pop girl group BabyMonster. That makes sense, considering the pedigree of YG girl groups like 2NE1 and Blackpink, but it goes beyond that. For one thing, BabyMonster members speak multiple languages in total, including English. In turn, the BabyMonster members also hail from three different countries in total. Here, as far as country and nationality are concerned, we will discuss where all seven BabyMonster members are from originally, including Ruka, Pharita, Asa, Ahyeon, Rami (Haram), Rora, and Chiquita.
The Countries That BabyMonster Members Are From
- Ruka is from Japan. Her birth name is Kawai Ruka (河井瑠花).
- Pharita is from Thailand. Her birth name is Pharita Boonpakdeethaveeyod, but she also goes by Pharita Chaikong (ภาริตา ไชยคง).
- Asa is from Japan. Her birth name is Enami Asa (榎並杏紗).
- Ahyeon is from South Korea. Her birth name is Jeong Ahyeon (정아현).
- Rami is from South Korea. Her birth name is Shin Haram (신하람).
- Rora is from South Korea. Her birth name is Lee Dain (이다인).
- Chiquita is from Thailand, from the province of Nakhon Ratchasima. Her birth name is Riracha Phondechaphiphat (ริราชา พรเดชาพิพัฒน์).
Ruka had been dancing for approximately 10 years already in Japan when she auditioned for YG Entertainment in 2018 when she was 16 years old. She had been part of the Japanese girl group Shibu3 Project, first introduced in the group on February 24, 2017, and she joined its “Blue Class.” Her last promotion with the group seemed to occur on April 15, 2018.
The other Japanese member, Asa, auditioned for YG in 2018 at 12 years old in year 6 of school. When she was 7 years old in dance school in Japan, she danced in front of people for the first time with “Very Good” by Block B.
Next, out of 1,226 applicants at the time, Pharita was the only one selected by YG to come to South Korea for training from Thailand, and she did not speak any Korean at the time. She had attended Ruamrudee International School, which might be where Pharita learned to speak English. Meanwhile, Chiquita auditioned in Thailand in March 2021 and was accepted. YG executive producer Yang Hyun-suk selected her for the BabyMonster project over people who had trained for five-to-six years due to her natural talent.
Ahyeon, Rami, and Rora are all Koreans born in South Korea. However, because of how young Rora was, she did not initially live in a dorm with the others. Instead, she made a two-hour commute to YG from her middle school, which involved a lengthy intercity bus ride to Seoul. Please note that reliable citations on the explicit birthplace / hometown for all of the BabyMonster members are not yet available, especially for the international members, (Information claiming otherwise should be met with a degree of skepticisim.) but this space shall be updated accordingly as it becomes available.
