To the uninitiated, understanding the differences among the assorted international NCT groups at SM Entertainment can feel a little daunting, but when it comes to NCT 127, there is at least a (vague) clue in the group’s name. “127” refers to the longitude of Seoul, South Korea on a map, and NCT 127 is the definitively Seoul-based unit of NCT. That being said, the members themselves come from five different countries in total. NCT 127 originally debuted on July 7, 2016 as a seven-member group with “소방차 (Fire Truck),” and first mini-album NCT #127 was released three days later. Members Johnny and Doyoung officially joined the group in January 2017 for the second mini-album, NCT #127 LIMITLESS, and Jungwoo completed the lineup in October 2018 for the release of studio album NCT #127 Regular-Irregular. - Taeil is 30 years old and was born on June 14, 1994.
- Johnny is 29 years old and was born on February 9, 1995.
- Taeyong is 29 years old and was born on July 1, 1995.
- Yuta is 28 years old and was born on October 26, 1995.
- Doyoung is 28 years old and was born on February 1, 1996.
- Jaehyun is 27 years old and was born on February 14, 1997.
- Winwin is 26 years old and was born on October 28, 1997.

At the time that NCT 127 debuted in July 2017, the original seven members were the following ages: Taeil was 22, Taeyong was newly 21, Yuta was 20, Jaehyun was 19, Winwin was 18, Mark was 16, and Haechan was 16. When they joined NCT 127 in January 2017, Johnny was 21 and Doyoung was 20. And when Jungwoo joined in October 2018, Jungwoo was 20. At all times, Haechan has been the maknae (meaning “youngest member”) of NCT 127, while Taeil is the oldest member. However, Taeyong is the leader of NCT 127 and generally regarded as the leader of NCT as a whole.
Although Winwin is still officially a member of NCT 127, he has been inactive with the group since shortly before joining China-based NCT unit WayV for their debut in January 2019. Meanwhile, Mark and Haechan are both also permanent members of NCT Dream, and they promote in both groups. In fact, Mark is the leader of NCT Dream and has a pretty interesting backstory.
Taeil, Taeyong, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Jungwoo, and Haechan are all native to South Korea. Johnny is from the United States (Chicago, Illinois), while Mark is from Canada, so those two speak native English. Lastly, Yuta is from Japan, and Winwin is from China.
