As the first new K-pop boy group to debut at SM Entertainment since NCT, RIIZE became the center of attention the instant they were formally revealed in August 2023. The name “RIIZE” combines “rise” (referring to “growth”) and “realize,” as “a team that grows and realizes their dreams together,” and their sound is a unique “emotional pop.” Two members, Shotaro and Sungchan, were previously NCT members, while Eunseok and Seunghan were SM Rookies, and Anton is the son of Lovelyz producer Yoon Sang. That’s a lot of concentrated talent! RIIZE debuted on September 4, 2023, and notably, they all debuted as adults. How Old Explained: Age & Birthday for Each of the RIIZE Members
- Shotaro is 23 years old and was born on November 25, 2000.
- Eunseok is 23 years old and was born on March 19, 2001.
- Sungchan is 22 years old and was born on September 13, 2001.
- Wonbin is 22 years old and was born on March 2, 2002.
- Seunghan is 20 years old and was born on October 2, 2003.
- Sohee is 20 years old and was born on November 21, 2003.
- Anton is 20 years old and was born on March 21, 2004.
At the time RIIZE debuted in September 2023, the members were the following ages: Shotaro was 22, Eunseok was 22, Sungchan was narrowly still 21, Wonbin was 21, Seunghan was 19, Sohee was 19, and Anton was 19. While it isn’t wildly rare for a K-pop group to debut with all members adult-aged, it isn’t wildly common either. (It’s also the polar opposite of the philosophy that drives a group like BabyMonster.) Anton was a 19-year-old maknae (“youngest member of the group”) at debut, and there is nearly three years and four months of age difference between him and the oldest member, Shotaro. Compared to in some groups, that’s a fairly narrow age gap. Anton has joked that his age is the easiest to remember since it can be thought of as “4321.”
Although Shotaro is the oldest member of the group, he is not the leader of RIIZE for the simple reason that the group has no official positions. That means that RIIZE has no official leader, unless SM declares otherwise in the future.
Notably, Seunghan went on indefinite hiatus from RIIZE on November 22, 2023, after suffering more than one controversy over behaviors he allegedly engaged in prior to debut.
