The conclusion of JYP Entertainment survival competition Nizi Project Season 2, aired December 15, 2023, created a new, seven-member Japanese boy group: NEXZ! The final members were confirmed in this order: (1) Tomoya, (2) Haru, (3) Yuki, (4) Ken, (5) Yu, (6) Yuhi, and (7) Seita. The name NEXZ is pronounced like “Next G” and stands for “Next Z(G)eneration,” and it carries the meaning that they will be the group “to lead JYP into the future with new generations.” NEXZ follows in the footsteps of NiziU before them, and the sky is the limit for their potential. How Old Explained: Current Age & Birthday for the NEXZ Members
- Yu is 19 years old and was born on April 27, 2005.
- Tomoya is 18 years old and was born on January 19, 2006.
- Haru is 18 years old and was born on January 23, 2006.
- Ken is 17 years old and was born on September 13, 2006.
- Seita is 17 years old and was born on November 28, 2006.
- Yuhi is 17 years old and was born on May 11, 2007.
- Yuki is 16 years old and was born on September 20, 2007.
Using K-pop terminology, Yuki is the maknae (“youngest member”) of NEXZ, which is fitting since he has always had a baby face! Yu then is the oldest member of NEXZ, and amusingly, during Nizi Project Season 2, eight out of 12 contestants voted him the best-looking member. Meanwhile, Yu had voted for Haru, saying, “This is the first time in my entire life that I’ve seen such a handsome man with single eyelids!” J.Y. Park himself, the founder of JYP Entertainment, described Yu and Haru as both having the looks of a “main character,” with Yu having the looks of a leading character in a girls manga and Haru having the looks of a hero who saves the earth. (Wow!)
However, it is actually Tomoya who is the leader of NEXZ, owing to strong leadership that he displayed across the whole length of Nizi Project Season 2. In fact, every contestant on the show voted unanimously for Tomoya as their preferred leader (including Tomoya), which J.Y. Park said he had never seen in all of his years creating groups through audition shows.
